Plush Weighted Companion Cube

The plush Weighted Companion Cube is now on sale, but seriously… $30, and it isn’t even a cube?

The Aperture Labs coffee mug is a fraction of the price, and… hmmm… do you think it’ll survive international shipping? Maybe we’ll find out after Christmas.

No Nutritional Value

Communities across Africa have revealed their disappointment that the new $100 laptops contain no nutritional value. ["Africans disappointed to discover $100 laptops are not full of food", The Daily Mash, in reference to the "One Laptop Per Child" project]

Al Gore meets the Klingon Ambassador

Well it was a momentous occasion as Al was lauded by the United Federation of Planets for his work to save planet Earth. He’s shown here with the Klingon ambassador, Lord Koloth. ["Al Gore meets the Klingon Ambassador", Fake Steve Jobs]

Bright Eyes

I would pay real money for The Polyphonic Spree to cover “Bright Eyes”.

A LOT.

Couple

The worst thing about ditching del.icio.us is losing my online collection of favourite xkcd comics.

Posting them here for posterity without explanation seems a little cheap… but heck, I’m a sucker for geek romance.

Couple.

Starkers!

I just found out about Starkers!, London’s naked disco!

I think I’ll suggest it for my work’s 2008 Christmas Party.

Speed Racer

The new Speed Racer movie trailer is up.

From the makers of the awe-inspiring “Matrix” trilogy and the deeply moving “V for Vendetta” comes a movie about… a boy racer. Don’t get me wrong — the visuals are incredible! — but I’m not convinced on the plot yet. I never got into the original, and this one doesn’t bode well either.

Apology

Re Apple’s $100 rebate for people who bought an iPhone before the price cut, here’s Steve Jobs’ first ever apology letter.

Polyphonic Links

Light and day,
Is more than you’ll say,
’cause all my feelings are more than I can let by,
Or not,
It’s more than you’ve got,
Just follow the day,
Follow the day and reach for the SUN!
["Light & Day/Reach for the Sun", The Polyphonic Spree]

thebeginningstagesof.com, togetherwereheavy.com and thefragilearmy.com are the eponymous homepages for The Polyphonic Spree’s first three albums.

They also have a UK microsite and an adventure game, “The Quest for the Rest“.

I’m also a member of “If The Polyphonic Spree Were A Cult, I Would Join“.

“Portal” As Feminist Media

Games Radar have published an article which explores the feminist themes in “Portal”. Brilliant!

Inspirational

These Star Trek inspirational posters are pretty awesome!

ResponsePoint

Sure, Microsoft ResponsePoint looks like a great service, but the demo videos are worth a watch regardless of how much (or how little) you care about small-business voice communication technology.

Delicious

Oh man! My bookmarking system is all wrong!

Okay, so, until a couple of nights ago, I was using Firefox and keeping all my bookmarks online with the del.icio.us plugin. But now I have iPhone, and iPhone synchronises its bookmarks with Safari. Not with del.icio.us.

I tried, but it didn’t work out. For an easy life, I’m going to shift all the bookmarks I really need out of del.icio.us and stick them in Safari, and any bookmarks I kept just to share will end up being blogged here.

On Jonathan Ross

Speaking of The Polyphonic Spree, there’s a video of their live performance of “Running Away” on “Friday Night With Jonathan Ross” on their UK microsite.

Sennheiser HD 515

I totally picked up a Sennheiser HD 515 headset today, and I tested them with The Polyphonic Spree’s Light and Day single.

They’re super-awesome! Maybe it’s just been a while since I had a real (read: not intended for public transport) set of headphones, but these things are just so comfortable and sound so warm and clear, with such a great range… I think I’m going to start appreciating these albums a little more.

Time Crash

Yeah, I know I’m a little late to the game, but I totally forgot to post this link to “Time Crash“, the special little Doctor Who episode for Children in Need

iCal

What’s a guy to do?

Back in the old days, I kept my personal calendar in iCal, and published it to .Mac so I could view it in Outlook at work.

This was great until .Mac went off line for a month and chewed through my e-mail and wouldn’t give me my calendar backups back (bitter, moi?), so I moved over to Google Calendar, which was brilliant, apart from losing the beautiful iCal interface and the automatic “birthdays” calendar generated from the Address Book.

But now, I have the iPhone calendar application. Google Calendar’s iPhone interface is almost as good, but not over GPRS.

So I figured it was time to go back to iCal so I can sync with the iPhone, but to see if I can publish my calendar somewhere outside of .Mac. I noticed iCal has a “publish to private server” option, but it seems to be WebDAV rather than FTP, and as great as my hosts are, they don’t support WebDAV.

I did a spot of research, and found a couple of free WebDAV hosts, but before I could sign up for any of them… I found out that iCal actually can publish through FTP after all.

Awesome!

I Made You A Tag, But I Eated It

Oh, bloody hell. I assume it happened when I upgraded to WordPress 2.3, but I just realised the “tag” links in the sidebar are broken.

I had them configured to appear in “/tag/”, which I guess interfered with the native tagging support. Oops.

They’re in “/t/” now.

Seek the Truth

So Swolf and I were browsing the TV channel listings last night, and I spotted a show called “Ancient Astronauts”. I clicked it on, and it was a second or two into “Seek the Truth”. Except, we didn’t know it was a commercial, and we kinda funked out for a moment.
